Pelikan 101 (ca.1935)

In May, 1935, in addition to the standard models, the price list of for UK presented the model 100 with some additional colored sleeve. The lineup were as follows (Pelikan Schreibgeräte) (cap / sleeve):

  • black/ black (standard model)

  • black/ green (standard mode)

  • black/ gray

  • black/ brown (new color)

  • black/ blue

  • black/ red

  • black/ mother of pearl (new color)

In addition, the new model characterized by the colored cap and colored sleeve made of the same material (celluloid) was presented as the model 101. The lineup were as follows (Pelikan Schreibgeräte) (cap / sleeve):

  • red / red

  • green / green

  • blue / blue

  • lizard / lizard

  • turtles shell (brown) /turtles shell¹⁾

The model 101 was destined mainly for the export markets, because colorful pens were not popular with conservative German consumers. In addition, since the model 101 was often exported to non-European countries, there were more short cap top variants compared to other models. For the English-speaking countries, the brand name “Pelican” not Pelikan was imprinted on the pen and the box ("Pelican" model).

Getting back to my pen, it is the model 101 lizard. It is also characterized by the short cap top. On the short cap top is engraved "Pelikan Paten Pelikan Patent"(not Pelican)(Fig.3-2). The nib size specification is on the feed (Fig.2-2). As from August 30, 1935, the nib width was inscribed on the tine of the feed instead of nib itself (Pelikan Schreibgeräte), indicating that this pen was made at a later time. Thus, my pen belongs to the mid- fourth generation.

The model 101 was discontinued in 1938 along with the luxury models.

Note;⁽¹⁾In 1936, brown cap was added as an option.
